Urban Beekeeping Rules and Challenges

Honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) is the most widely grown insect species in world and very important both economically ecologically. Recently, keeping honey bees urban areas becoming also increasingly pop-ular around due to many reasons such as presence of more flowering plant diversity parks, gardens other green compared rural areas, lower risk pesticides parasites areas. Today, colonies are found everywhere, from roofs terraces buildings city cores suburban backyards. While beekeeping practices similar those densely populated environment, beekeepers face challenges hive placement, colony management, preventing swarming robbing, provision water source, human/bee interaction poo. Urban creates new concerns. Increased densities cities might have negative effects on wild by transmitting pathogens competing for nectar pollen resources addition productivity.
